A Fall Checkup for Your Coverage

Plans change every year, even if your health does not. A doctor may leave the network, a medicine may move tiers, or a copay may quietly rise.

Each fall we read what is changing with you and check whether your current plan still makes sense or whether another one we offer would serve you better.

Read the Annual Notice of Change

Before October arrives, every plan mails members an Annual Notice of Change. It lists every change to premiums, copays, networks and drug coverage that starts on January 1. Many people set it aside unopened; we go through it page by page with you.

What We Check

  • Your doctors, hospitals and pharmacy are still in network
  • Your medicines are covered, and at what tier
  • The premium, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum for next year
  • Extra benefits you actually use, such as dental or a fitness benefit

If something important has changed, we compare alternatives using the same list of medicines and providers.

Key Dates

Autumn enrollment spans mid-October (the 15th) to December 7, with new choices starting January 1. Part C members get a single extra switch in the first three months of the year.

Our Part D guide explains drug comparisons in more depth, and the dental, vision and hearing page covers those extras.

When Staying Put Is Best

Often the right answer is to keep your plan. If that is the case, we tell you plainly and you are done until next fall.
